chip’s coffee career began in nashville, tn. after graduating from belmont university with a degree in music, he sought out a job that would give him the flexibility to perform in the evenings.

over the next several years he developed a passionate curiosity for all things coffee - he has worked as a barista, cook, general manager, educator, trainer, coffee tech, and head roaster - and in 2022 he completed his arabica q grader certification.

after relocating to charleston with his wife (mary) and their corgi (bean), chip found an opportunity to start his own roastery - simple, meticulously developed, small-batch roasted specialty coffee, tucked away in a little warehouse on john’s island. 

chip’s goal for tuckaway is intentionality - taking an extra beat to check in and ensure retail and wholesale partners alike are getting exactly what they are looking for in each cup of tuckaway coffee. 

outside of the roastery you can find chip performing jazz piano around town with mary, his lovely and incredibly talented wife on vocals !
